Harvest Pierce County is delighted to support a variety of communities to create open green spaces. Whether a community garden is on public or private property, Tacoma city limits or greater Pierce County, we are here to help facilitate and support this development in a variety of ways.
In order to be an official community garden, we do have some base requirements:
Harvest Pierce County completes a site visit
That six or more individuals are committed to the development and building stage of the garden
This group go through a process of developing a "Garden Charter" which outlines the organizational structure and vision of the garden. Harvest Pierce County is here to facilitate those meetings.
If you are seriously considering starting a community garden or food project, we recommend that you download both the "Tool Kit" which has many tips from outreach to recommended building materials along with the "Questions for Starting a Community Garden" found below. Then please give our office a call to schedule an initial meeting and site visit.
