Rain Garden Demonstration Installation Events
June 6-7 June 13-14 June 27-28 August 15-16 & 22-23 Note: All rain garden installations will take place on the first scheduled date, with possible wrap-up the following day. Call Stream Team for directions and to confirm project details. Additional Stream Workshop Added Due to high demand, another stream monitoring workshop has been addedto the schedule. If you are interested in becoming a water quality monitor, join us on June 13 for a 3-hour workshop to learn the ins and outs of pH, dissolved oxygen, turbidity testing, and more. To register, please contact Isabel at (253) 845-2973 or isabelr@piercecountycd.org. Make Your Mark On Curbs Around Wapato Lake You can make your mark and help clean up the Wapato Lake watershed by joining Stream Team, the City of Tacoma, Metro Parks, Citizens for a Healthy Bay, and Friends of Wapato Lake in two days of stormdrain marking. Stormdrains, located throughout the Wapato Lake watershed, feed rainwater from rooftops, gutters, and streets directly into Wapato Lake. There is no treatment of this water, so any pollutant that is flushed into the stormdrain eventually impacts the lake. Join us on June 13 and June 27 for two days of spreading the message, “No Dumping Drains to Wapato Wetland.” Each event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and groups are encouraged to volunteer together. For more information or to sign up, please contact Melissa at melissab@piercecountycd.org or (253) 845-2973. Bend it Like Knotweed This summer, Pierce County and Stream Team are partnering to eradicate the very invasive knotweed plant along Chambers Creek and its tributaries: Flett, Leach, and Peach Creeks. The treatment method includes an early summer bending of knotweed canes, followed by a foliar spray of the new growth two weeks later. On June 6, a Knotweed Bend-It event is planned to bend knotweed on either side of Chambers Creek. This event will contribute to the larger project for the entire system, and volunteers are needed to get this work completed. If you would like to learn more about knotweed, get hands-on knowledge on how to bend effectively, or would just like to help, please contact Melissa at melissab@pericecountycd.org or (253) 845-2973. |
